On April 19, the Portland State Vanguard was honored with 26 awards at the 2024 Collegiate Newspaper Contest, including first place in the General Excellence category.

Awards are given for a variety of published content, including writing, design, and photography, based on multiple evaluation criteria including news value, writing quality, originality, imagination, composition, and impact. The Vanguard competed in group two, a category consisting of four-year institutions from across the state.
